Fix Cavities With Beautiful White Fillings.

What Are Composite Fillings?

Almost everyone will get a cavity eventually. Even if you brush and floss and see the dentist for checkups, cavities can still happen. Everything from the foods you eat to your unique genetic makeup may increase your chances of getting a cavity. At Union Dental Center, we’re experts in the early detection and treatment of cavities using composite fillings.

Did you know that for decades, dentists relied on mercury amalgam (silver) fillings to repair teeth affected by cavities. While silver fillings are still used today, there is now a better option: composite fillings. Made from an eco-friendly quartz-like material, composite fillings are a great alternative to silver fillings.

Discover the Benefits of Composite Fillings

We’re proud to take a healthy, comfortable, and high-tech approach to fixing cavities. Our composite fillings are…

  • Designed to match the color of your natural teeth
  • Minimally-invasive — requiring the removal of much less tooth structure than a silver filling
  • Bonded directly to the surface of your tooth
  • Durable and made to last — they actually strengthen your tooth!
  • Mercury free

If you’ve been told you need a filling, ask your dentist about high-tech composite fillings.

Our Approach to Composite Fillings

At Union Dental Center, we take a proactive and high-tech approach to your dental health.

First, we’ll use high-tech dental imaging technology to identify any possible areas of decay. Then we’ll talk to you about your options for restoring your tooth — often with the help of a composite filling. Here’s how it works:

  1. To help you relax we gently numb the area around the tooth or teeth
  2. Remove the decay and as little of your natural tooth as possible
  3. Build up the composite filling and match the color to your natural tooth
  4. Smooth and polish the filling and make sure it properly aligns with your bite

That’s it! Most composite fillings take less than an hour to complete.

Frequently Asked Questions about dental fillings

How can I avoid getting cavities?

Despite being common, cavities are easily preventable. Here are some suggestions to keep your smile healthy:

  • Brush at least 2 times a day
  • Floss daily
  • Visit us twice a year for checkups and cleanings
  • Limit your sugar intake
  • Drink a lot of water (especially after eating sugary foods)

Are composite fillings safe?

Yes, our mercury-free fillings are absolutely safe! Unlike amalgam fillings (which contain roughly 50% mercury), our composite fillings don’t include any harmful substances.

Are fillings uncomfortable?

Fillings are not meant to cause pain. To help you relax, we’ll gently numb the area around the tooth. After the procedure, the local anesthetic may take some hours to completely wear off.

Do fillings get covered by dental insurance?

Since fillings are a restorative treatment, most dental insurance plans cover a percentage of the cost. Our staff will answer any questions you may have regarding insurance, cost, and payment options.
